Many of us have the dream
to work from home. More time for the family, not too much traffic
on the stairs. But before you give up your day job you need to
ask yourself three questions, and answer them honestly:
Do you have the self
discipline to work on your own?
Are you ready to work
hard? Forget the "you can work just a few hour a week" lines.
Are you ready to make
some investment?
If your answer to any one
of the above was "no", maybe you are not ready. The reason, an
internet based home business will take hard work, lots of
skills, some investment and a certain amount of patience.
Yes I know, fortunes have
been made over night, but that happens to other people. You and
I have to work for our luck. That is not to say that there is
not money to be made, and yes the opportunities are everywhere,
but to make it happen you will have to choose wisely, learn
quickly, work diligently, invest when necessary, and persevere
till the fruits of you labors mature.
Choose Wisely.
There are many hundreds of
opportunities on the internet, and all of them claim you must
act now before it is too late. It wont be too late, take your
time, check them out, and if they are really good opportunities,
they will be there when you have made your choice. Most of the
better businesses will give you a trial period before you have
to pay any thing, and if you are really sharp and work hard, you
can turn a profit in them before you have any cash outlay.
Before I go on, let's talk a
little about "Ponzis". The Internet is a fertile ground for
schemes which don't have any real product and work on the basis
of "pay the existing people using funds from the new sign ups".
All the "Doublers" and most of the "pay per click" exchanges
work on this basis. Of course, the income stream comes to an
end, and most have lost their money.
So what do you choose?
Well, firstly choose something that has real products that you
think have a consumer demand. Secondly choose something you feel comfortable
with and believe in. The more passionate you are about the
products, the more likely you will not give up when the going
gets tough. And finally choose something that is within your
budget. Any business takes time to grow, so you need to be able
to finance the project for at least a few months before you will
see rewards.
Learn quickly.
While it is true, business
is business, the internet has it's own way. To get going earning
a return on your money and labor as soon as possible, you have
got to learn the tricks of the trade as soon as possible. There
are plenty of places to learn everything you need to know, and
here on this site we feature several. One of the greatest
features of a number of the programs are on line meetings or
seminars during which more experienced leaders give freely of
their knowledge. Do be careful, however, that the advice is in
your interest as well as the interest of the advisor. One of
programs that I feel meets all of these criteria is
MPAM.
Work diligently
I am sorry, but yes, you
have got to work hard. The internet, more than any other forum
is based on "In your Face". That means, "If I don't see you, I
don't know you are there". That means that whatever you choose
as your prime marketing tool, you have to keep working at it.
Email your list, do that surfing, write that article, do that
blog entry. You miss, they, your customers, don't see you.
Hopefully if you are really intent on doing this internet
business thing you will find it is all fun work, but it has to
be done!
Invest when necessary.
As I have said all along,
nothing is free. You remember the old adage, "You get what you
pay for", well it's true! The only good part about this is that
some of what you invest can be sweat equity. For example, a
number of really good opportunities like
TMI
Wireless never charge you anything ever, but you never earn
anything ever if you don't get off you butt and sell cell
phones. But then what is easier to sell these days than cell
phones? Yes, you will have to invest, but if you do it wisely,
take your time to choose the best programs, and work hard, your
investment will be rewarded..
Persevere till the fruits
of your labors mature.
The final key - Be Patient.
Rome was not built in a day, nor was Microsoft. Set yourself
reasonable goals, work to achieve them and correct course when
you don't. What will not work is signing up for this program
today, trying another tomorrow, and yet a third on Saturday. Do
your homework and choose the programs you want to run with, then
run. If after a good try one or other program is not working for
you, then dump it for sure, but first make certain it is the
programs fault, not yours
If you make a good plan and
stick with it, you will be successful. And, yes, there is money
to be made on the internet. Lots of Money. Good luck getting
your fair share.
Why? Because the answer depends on
you, and what you answer.
Let's say I said to you that the
first thing you want to do is learn how to write really well
because that is going to be one of the keys to making an income
on the Internet, at least a good one, and you said, "But I hate
to write!" Well, then obviously you're going to drift from the
game plan right from the start. So instead, what I am going to
do is give you options. Lots of them. Because believe it or not,
there is more than one way to make money on the Internet. Some
will be more profitable than others at the start, and you need
to try several different ways, all at the same time.
My point is, there is more than one
way to skin a cat in this business. I will give you as many ways
as I know of. I certainly don't know them all, or am an expert
at them all. For example, I know nothing about selling on Ebay,
though I hear that can be very lucrative. I just can't help you
with it because I have never done it before.
So in the series of articles to
follow, I will give you a number of ways to capitalize on your,
what I call, "generic" starting point. So this is what I want
you to do after reading this article, because this WILL be YOUR
"Where To Start."
Sit down with a pen and paper (yes,
get away from the darn computer) and write down ALL your
interests. That's right, ALL of them. I don't care how silly
they are or how unlikely they are to make money. Just write them
down. The reason is simple. You have got to spend a fair amount
of time doing this internet thing, so you might as well be doing
it in an area that interests you.
So for me, I am interested in
health and cooking so doing something in this area makes sense
to me.
